It is the last day of 2016 and what’s more fitting than more talk on goals, right? As much as my goals have changed over time, more broad ranging now than ever before, there are some that I think we all can benefit from. My primary lesson from resolutions over the past few years is that resolutions or goals should come from a place of acceptance rather than lack, a place of joy rather than sorrow, a place of hope rather than defeat. In my previous post, I shared some tips on how to keep up with our resolutions for the coming year – whatever they might be – but if you’re looking for some resolutions that can help you with personal growth and just help you feel fuller as a person, I have some for you –
- Acceptance – Surrender. I always thought that “surrender” had a negative connotation to it and equated it to giving up. But life has taught me that surrendering may sometimes just be your only option and it’s not a bad thing. It’s like letting fate, universe or god decide what’s best for you. And as much as you believe you know what’s best for you, believe me, sometimes there’s much better things waiting for you out there.. things you’d never have even imagined.
- Let go – If there are certain things of the past that you’re holding on to which you know are not good for you, let it go. Whether it’s anger, resentment, fear.. anything that’s not positive and will not help you move forward, let it go.
- Hope – Even though life throws many curveballs at us, we as humans have a much stronger tendency to fight back and not give up. No matter the battle, no matter the time in your life, you can always do something about it. It might take time – either to do things or to see the results, but just be patient and don’t give up.
- Gratitude – This is not something I should be dishing out advice on because god knows how much improvement I need in this department. But even so, I have found that the feeling of gratitude is one of those things that instantly changes your perspective. It immediately puts you in a state of whole rather than lack.
- Focus – No matter your goals for 2017, stay focused. Stay focused on your path in life rather than what others are up to. Stay focused on your goals and your achievements, rather than on what others have achieved. At the end of it, you are only answerable to yourself for the goals you have set for yourself.
Do you have any other ideas for some goals that can help us in our journey of personal growth?
