Ever so often in life, we forget to take a step back and simply pause. Pause to see how far we’ve come, pause to see where we’re headed or pause to simply just take the moment in. Life only gets busier as we get older with more responsibilities and before we know it, so much has happened! It’s like they say, life is what happens when we’re busy making other plans. I’ve been feeling the need to pause a lot more in these last few weeks of my pregnancy – believe me, it’s not by choice. When you’re this big and have only so much energy, your body begs you to slow down and that’s exactly what you have to do. These days, I’m having lesser energy to do chores around the house but thanks to my husband’s help it’s making things so much easier for me! Having my parents here for 6 weeks during the last trimester helped me immensely because I didn’t even realize how tired I was getting until my mum pretty much did everything around the house and I got to just rest! As much as I would like to keep going, these last few weeks of pregnancy have left me feeling restless, impatient and excited all at the same time. Here are some things that help me stay calm during this home stretch –
- Getting out of the house – As tough as it can be to muster the energy to get things done, it is so important to get out of the house atleast once a day. It helps refresh your mind and just gives you a change of mindset. I’ve been trying to get out as much as I can whether it is to grocery shop, shop for the blog, run errands or meet with friends.
- Keep busy – I know it’s tricky and you’re like how can I possibly keep busy when I barely have energy to get out of bed? But that’s the point – the more you keep busy, the easier it is to get through these last few weeks. Don’t overdo it of course, but give your mind something to focus its attention on. I’ve been indulging in planning my blog and Instagram posts so much lately because I’ve realized that it not only gives me so much joy and happiness but also something to take my mind off the anxiety, fear or restlessness that I might feel.
- Meet people – Just plain human interaction every couple of days with friends and family out of your house is great for you! We all are social beings and there’s no running away from the fact that we need this kind of interaction! As much as you’d like to be home bodies at this time, this is exactly the time you have to get out and meet people!
- Shop – *wink wink* When has this EVER not worked for a woman? With the baby coming, there’s so much to be done in terms of baby shopping, maternity shopping and postpartum shopping! Use this as an excuse to get yourself out of the house!
- Massage – I am a BIG believer in the magical qualities of a good massage but at this point of my pregnancy, I really can’t imagine getting a full body massage done! So I’ve been indulging in other alternatives like a great foot massage or using a great shower gel for my bath. One of my personal favorites is the Stress Relief one from Bath and Body Works. I’ve been using this one for years now and swear by it. It’s aromatherapy scents are exactly what a mama-to-be needs!
- Put your feet up and watch some Netflix – As restless as you’re getting to meet your little one and put the exhaustion you feel by the end of your pregnancy behind you, the big day is not going to come faster than you want just because you want it! You may as well make the most of it and watch all the TV you can, while you can! Lol
