INFORMATION OVERLOAD

Today we live in times where information is so easily available.. In the past few months, any time I have had a question or doubt about things regarding my baby.. I’ve simply asked “Dr. Google”! Obviously a lot of research goes in before I choose what I want and what I don’t want, but that doesn’t discount the fact anything I need is so instantly available today. We literally bought everything for our baby from the comfort of our cozy couch! I distinctly remember installing a whole bunch of apps and signing up on various pregnancy websites when we first got to know I was expecting… only to actually never have used any of those apps! Ironic, right? Living in today’s times, why wouldn’t I want to know every single detail of every single day of my pregnancy and my baby’s growth? There were times when I spoke to some friends and they’d inquire about what I was reading or what apps I was using and I very sheepishly replied.. “none, really!”. Sheepish because I almost felt like a bad mum for not being very thorough in my research! The truth is, I didn’t want to look at that mountain of information all around me. I was careful about what I read and I took in just as much as I needed and what was prescribed. I spoke to my doctor at every appointment at length about what I could or couldn’t do (regarding exercise, diet etc.) and honestly after that, I just went about my business. At this point I would definitely say that it is extremely important to take the right precautions and speak to your doctor about any questions you may have. But once I got that out of the way, I didn’t see much point in overwhelming myself with all that information that was out there.

And that was really one of the best decisions I made through my pregnancy. It’s so important to understand what works for us and what doesn’t.. we really don’t have to simply do something because it’s convention! What do you guys think?
