3 THINGS MOTHERHOOD HAS TAUGHT ME

This whole series on the blog has been a long time coming.. I’ve been thinking about it for a while now and I’m so so glad to finally be penning down my thoughts, feelings and random musings on motherhood. Motherhood has changed my life forever. In terms of lifestyle yes, but I’m talking about something a lot deeper than that. There’s something within me that feels different.. it’s like I feel a lot more solid now, and a lot more grounded in so many ways. Honestly, I’d been quite nervous about becoming a mother. The responsibilities, the idea of someone looking up to me, the change in lifestyle…they all scared me. I was unsure how everything would play out and how I’d feel about it and most of all, how I’d be able to manage everything I’m doing, all the while keeping my sanity intact. And the truth is, it’s ALL worked out so beautifully. In so many ways, much better than I had expected. Touchwood. And today on the blog, I wanted to start this series by listing a few things motherhood has taught me so far which I didn’t really know before —

  1. Flexibility – I used to be pretty rigid earlier. If there was something I wanted, I always found a way to make it work. But motherhood so far has taught me to be flexible in my thinking and plans. We’re perpetually 30 mins late to events these days because of last minute diaper changes or a fussy baby that needs soothing. I’ve learned that it’s not the end of my world if I don’t do what I set out to do right then and there. There are times when things have to wait a couple of hours… or a couple of days! And it’s ok.
  2. Multi – tasking – I have never been a better multi-tasker. Talk about holding a baby in one hand and finishing up your coffee with the other? Done that! Talk about watching your baby on the bouncer and mildly entertaining him while replying to emails? Done that too! The only way I get things done these days is if I multi-task.
  3. Prioritizing – Time has never been more precious to me and it’s all for the good! I have so little free time these days in the middle of diaper changes, feeding, bathing and soothing a baby that I have (finally!!!) learnt to prioritize my tasks. I am learning to mentally highlight my tasks as important and not so important and then accomplishing them one at a time! And believe me, I have been feeling better each day about my to-do lists!

Motherhood has most definitely made me want to be a better person. But more on that later. Thank you for stopping by and I’d love to hear on your thoughts on this! Until next time. xoxo

This was a great read Tivoli and agreeing with everything you said. Loving the idea of motherhood Mondays especially as our second baby is due in October, God willing. I am so glad to note you guys have transitioned well into parenthood. Enjoy every moment! 🙂
